So PROUD!
So I know this is out of order as I have not yet finished blogging about San Diego, but I just had to share this short story with everyone. As you all know Morgan went through 6 weeks of casting and for the past month has been in braces 20 hours a day. Through the casting she lost all muscle that was in her legs and with only 4 hours a day free from the braces it has been a very slow process to regain the muscle. As research says it takes twice as long as casted to regain muscle lost and since Morgan is still basically being casted 20 hours a day it is hard to regain the muscle. Anyway, we have spent those 4 hours free everyday working with first tolerating touch and pressure in the feet again to learning how to bear weight again. Now Morgan still has a long way to go as she still won't bear her full weight on her own, but tonight she made huge gains. She has been asking for days now to get in her walker and try walking. The last time we tried it (before our trip) she cried the whole time as she still couldn't bear enough weight to do the walker. But tonight was different. David adjusted the walker and sling seat so that she didn't have all her weight to bear and very slowly Morgan began trying to take steps. At first she could do the steps, but not move the walker but with much encouragement and of course some candy she eventually figured out how to move it forward too. She is not where we was with walking a few months ago, but tonight she made huge gains to get back there. We saw a spark in her eye tonight that we haven't seen in a while. She is so determined to learn to walk and despite the pain she kept trying. I know that with a lot of hard work she is going to get there one day. We are just so PROUD of Morgan and her determination!
