It seems like just yesterday that I took this picture before heading out the door with Morgan and Lucas for Morgan's first visit to preschool for her evaluation.
Now it is two years later and we are just a few short months away from preschool promotion and are already preparing for kindergarten. I can hardly believe I am typing those words, my little girl is going to be a kindergartner come July.
Over the past few weeks we have began preparing for kindergarten and have more meetings to come. The first was a transition informational meeting a few weeks ago. Around that same time we found out some wonderful news, Morgan's para who has worked with her for the past two years and is SO amazing, will be transferring with Morgan to Sycamore. We are so thankful that she will be joining our little girl in kindergarten and are now so at ease about the transition.
Last Friday we had the second round of meetings for preparing for the transition, our parent-teacher conference. Morgan received a great report overall. She is right on track for starting kindergarten, especially in regards to her pre-reading skills. We do need to spend a little bit more time focusing on math. I must admit that we slack on this because working on reading is so easy when Morgan is obsessed with books, especially horse books.
The next round of preparing for kindergarten will be the first week back from Spring break when Morgan gets to go to Kindergarten Round-up. This is a fun event that each elementary school in our district holds to "round-up" all the kindergartners and get them registered for the next year. First we go to the MPR to hear the principal and teachers speak and then while the parents fill out all the wonderful paperwork the future kinders get to go to the classroom for an activity. Morgan is really looking forward to this day. We are very excited because my principal told me last week that he is going to try to arrange for Morgan's para to go with her so we won't have to worry about Morgan being in the classroom. We really want her to be able to experience this day as typically as she can so we were really hoping that David or I would not have to accompany her.
After that, the final stage of the process will be her IEP meeting in late April. In the meantime we are continuing to support what her fabulous teacher, Ms. BJ, is doing at school to prepare her for kinder....we are working on learning our sight words. Morgan is doing amazingly well with them. Below are some of the words that she currently knows. (I can only ever seem to post 30 sec. at a time so I broke these into smaller clips).
Morgan is doing so with her sight words and we are very proud of her. In fact, today while waiting for PT to begin she read the first sentence in a book almost 100% on her own. The only thing I helped with was sounding out the word C-A-T. She is very excited to begin reading and can't wait until she can read to her baby sister in May.
